Welcome Spring at 39^th Annual May Breakfast/Brunch at Smith-Appleby House Museum

Sunday, May 6^th

SMITHFIELD, RI — Welcome the arrival of Spring with family and friends at the 39^th annual May Breakfast/Brunch at the Smith-Appleby House Museum on Sunday, May 6, 2012. 

This year, the traditional breakfast features homemade breads, chilled fruit cup, omelet, Johnny cakes, Grandma's old fashioned baked beans, coffee and orange juice — all served by Smithfield Historical Society members in Colonial costume in the beautiful historic House Museum. 

Seating for the breakfast/brunch is 11 a.m. Cost is $15 per person, which includes a self-guided tour of the Museum. Reservations are required. Call 401-231-7363. 

The Smith-Appleby House was originally constructed circa 1696 as a one-room stone-ender with a loft above. It was built by Elisha Smith, grandson of John Smith (The Miller) — one of Roger Williams’ original party of six men who left the Massachusetts Bay Colony and founded Providence. Over the years, later generations of the family expanded the House, which today totals 12 rooms. 

The Smith-Appleby House Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places and is headquarters to The Historical Society of Smithfield. It’s located at 220 Stillwater Rd. in Smithfield, RI, just off I-295 (Exit 8-B).

Throughout the year, the House offers a variety of events and activities for the general public, including weekend tours and demonstrations; educational programs for schools, scouts, and tour groups; festivals and militia encampments; historically-themed dinners; and Holiday celebrations.
