News Release

Tours & Treats at Smith-Appleby House Museum’s Colonial Holiday Open House Days in December & January

Smithfield, R.I. – Tours and demonstrations featuring Colonial holiday history, traditions, decorations, and even hearthside cooking and baked treats, are all part of the Holiday Open House Days at the Smith-Appleby House Museum in Smithfield, RI, during December and January.

Hosted by volunteer historians in Colonial costume, the events offer a festive opportunity to visit and tour the home — originally built circa 1696 as a one-room stone-ender with loft by Elisha Smith, grandson of John Smith “The Miller,” one of Roger Williams’ original party of six men who left the Massachusetts Bay Colony to settle in Providence. Expanded by later generations of the family to 12 rooms, today it’s one of only a few 17th century houses remaining in the state and features original furnishings, designs and exhibits.

The Holiday Open House Days schedule is:

·         Dec. 10, Saturday, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

·         Dec. 18, Sunday, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

·         Dec. 23, Friday, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

·         Dec. 31, Saturday, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

·         Jan.7, Saturday, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

·         Jan. 14, Saturday, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

The schedule is weather permitting. In case of snow, call 401-487-2473 to confirm Open House hours. There is a $5 donation for adults and children are free. No reservations are needed.
